Rod Stewart concert 'cut short' days before music icon's Chester-le-Street gig

Days before he heads back to the North East, Rod Stewart was said to be massively annoyed on Saturday, after his gig in Plymouth was cut short, with fans missing out on hearing one of the icon's biggest hits.

Every time Maggie May and Baby Jane singer Rod comes to he region, there is always plenty of interest and on Friday, June 30, he will be treating fans to an al fresco evening of classics, when he takes to the stage at the Durham Riverside ground in Chester-le-Street. Following a successful stint in Las Vegas, Rod kicked off his UK dates at Plymouth's Home Park on Saturday.

Those in attendance at the football ground were treated to some choice cuts from Rod's back catalogue like You Wear it Well, Downtown Train, Tonight's the Night and Young Turks, with the singer and his band also performing covers of It Takes Two, Twistin' the Night Away and Addicted to Love.

Rod often ends his gigs with huge fan favourite Sailing, but after belting out Baby Jane and Do Ya Think I'm Sexy, the concert on Saturday came to a very abrupt end, with someone apparently walking onto the stage to tell Rod he had to end the show, as he had reached the 10.30pm noise curfew. Plymouth's Lord Mayor Mark Shayer has denied he was involved in ending the concert early, telling PlymouthLive, “I’m horrified to be implicated. To say I stopped Rod Stewart singing what is one of my favourite songs, on Armed Forces Day, it’s ridiculous. I’m livid.”

The sudden conclusion to Rod's performance became quite a talking point on Twitter, with Plymouth City Council also refuting any blame, as they tweeted: "We know there is a lot of noise about the Rod Stewart concert on the weekend. The decision to end the concert at 10.30 was nothing to do with the Council or the venue."
