Rod Stewart and Brian Cox join host of celebs calling for ban on vile trophy hunting

Rod Stewart has urged people to stand up for animals as he slammed sick trophy hunters for being “savagely cruel and senseless” ahead of a crucial vote on Friday.

The rock star has joined a host of celebrities, including Scottish Succession star Brian Cox and Liam Gallagher, who are backing a Mirror campaign to outlaw the vile hobby and ban hunters from bringing their sick souvenirs back to Britain.

Rod, 78, also urged MPs to attend a vote taking place on Friday on a crucial law change, as so far only 28 MPs have confirmed they will be attending, the Mirror reports.

Rod said: “We are in danger of losing some of the world’s most magnificent wildlife because of the selfishness of ‘trophy’ hunters. How can this so-called sport be considered a pleasure or even fair when the opposition is unarmed?”

Oasis frontman Liam, 50, said: “Trophy hunters are spoilt little brats; haven’t they got enough toys to play with.

"They’re wiping out wildlife. Soon there will be nothing left for them to kill. How are we going to explain that to future generations? Let’s get it banned.”

Acclaimed actor Brian, 76, added: “Everywhere you look, wildlife is on the brink.

"The last thing endangered animals need is for British people to be shooting them in large numbers for ‘sport’. It’s utterly insane and we need to stop it now."

The Government has promised a ban on UK hunters bringing home “trophy” kills since 2019.

Chris Tarrant called trophy hunting a “disgraceful trade”, while fellow TV presenter Angela Rippon called on MPs to delay returning to their constituencies to take part in the vote.

Duran Duran’s Nick Rhodes, 60, added: “It is unfathomable to me to think that anyone would want to mindlessly kill a beautiful, majestic, wild animal just for some sadly misguided personal glory. It is cruel, cowardly and shameful.”
