The threat level for a bushfire burning in East Rockingham, Hillman and Coolongup, south of Perth, has been downgraded to a watch and act.
An emergency warning was in place this afternoon for the blaze, which was reported shortly before 2pm.
There is still a possible threat to lives and homes in the area bounded by Crompton Road, Mandurah Road, Wellard Road, and Ennis Avenue, in the Cities of Rockingham and Kwinana.
The area encompasses Rockingham Hospital.
A hospital spokesperson said patients were not currently being evacuated, but staff were liaising closely with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services to monitor the situation.
A number of roads have been closed including Dixon Road and Darile Street.
The fire is out of control and unpredictable, with authorities warning of embers being blown around homes.
It started near the intersection of Dixon Road and Mandurah Road, and was moving quickly in a north-westerly direction.
DFES had sent aerial water bombers to the scene as firefighters attempted to strengthen containment lines.
A large area adjacent to the fire was also downgraded to a bushfire advice due to changes in wind direction.
Authorities are still warning residents of large amounts of smoke in the area bound by Hurrell Way, Patterson Road, Ennis Avenue, Safety Bay Road and Read Street.
There is also a possible threat to lives and homes in this area as well.
Transperth trains between Cockburn and Rockingham had been cancelled due to the fire, with replacement bus services in operation.
Premier Mark McGowan lives in Rockingham, and the fire is in the heart of his electorate.
It was the fourth bushfire in WA that had been upgraded to an emergency warning this week, following earlier blazes at Martin in the City of Gosnells, at Nambeelup near Mandurah, and near Kirup in the South West.
