Shortly after John Wall was traded from the Clippers to the Rockets on Thursday ahead of the NBA deadline, Houston told the guard that he will be waived, per TNT and Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes.
This means the former No. 1 pick will headline free agency at the midpoint of the 2022–23 NBA season.
Wall previously played for the Rockets in the 2020–21 season, but then sat out the following season before heading to Los Angeles.
The five-time All-Star is currently in his 11th season in the league. Through 34 games with the Clippers this season, Wall averaged 11.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 5.2 assists, which are all career lows for the guard.
Thursday’s three-team deal featured three other players, including NBA veteran Eric Gordon, who is headed from the Rockets back to the Clippers. Then, shooting guard Luke Kennard reportedly is moving from the Clippers to the Grizzlies while star Danny Green leaves the Grizzlies to join the Clippers, who also receive three second-round draft picks in the deal.
