Work is set to begin on the UK’s first commercial spaceport, which will see satellites launched into orbit from the Shetland Islands by the end of the year.
The Lamba Ness peninsular in Unst will be home to the £43m spaceport, with builders set to start work in late March, after Shetland Islands Council gave the project planning permission.
Three launchpads will be built at the SaxaVord spaceport, allowing for the launch of small satellites into either polar or sun-synchronous low-Earth orbits.
