'Rock For Culture' to artistically protest famous Dublin beer garden closure

Punters eager to save an iconic Dublin beer garden are to descend on the city centre later this week.

The Rock for Culture event will take place outside the Holiday Inn on O'Connell Street Upper this coming Thursday, August 11, at 6pm in an effort to show what will be lost if Fibber Magees is forced to shut its famous beer garden. If plans go ahead, the Living Room and Murrays Pub will also be affected.

The issues have arisen because the owners of the Holiday Inn Express plan to use the land to extend the hotel and were granted permission by Dublin City Council. Several publicans on O'Connell Street have lodged an appeal against plans to close the popular open-space beer garden.
