Northumberland's own Robson Green has admitted that it was a certain look on his mother's face which made him shirk the fierce grip of drink and drugs.
The actor surged to fame three decades ago, after a stellar Soldier Soldier performance on ITV where he and fellow actor Jerome Flynn belted out Unchained Melody - with music mogul Simon Cowell quickly making popstars of the duo and catapulting them to the top of the UK's music charts.
As work took over, so did a downward spiral into addiction - as Robson lost his sense of true self, as well as the grounding from his native Northumberland and North East mining family.
