Robin Koch explains why he's 'confident' Leeds United can beat Newcastle United

Leeds United centre-back Robin Koch is confident that his side can go and make it three successive victories when they face struggling Newcastle United at Elland Road this weekend.

The 25-year-old returned to the starting XI for the visit of Arsenal last month after recovering from a pelvic injury that he sustained on the opening day of the season at Manchester United.

Koch has since helped the Whites to victories over Burnley and West Ham United and had to shift into midfield for the latest win, slotting into Kalvin Phillips' role with Adam Forshaw alongside him.

His return has been a huge boost to Leeds and Koch will be hoping they can add yet another three points on the board which will put considerable breathing space between them and the relegation zone.

"I'm optimistic in every situation, of course we have won the last two games in the league.," he told talkSPORT.

"It was really important for us and we've got a lot of confidence going into the next few games.

"It's a really important game for both teams, everyone knows this, I'm confident that we'll win there.

"It's good for us that we have our fans in the stadium for our home games and I'm looking forward to it."

It's safe to say Koch has had horrid luck with injuries since joining the Whites from Freiburg on a four-year deal in August 2020.

The German international made just 17 Premier League appearances last season after missing a number of months with a knee injury, before he sustained another setback against the Red Devils in August.

This has meant that Koch has played in front of a packed-out Elland Road just twice in 16 months, but he revealed that he took his friends from his home country to a Leeds game earlier this campaign.

He added: "I was happy to get some friends over even when I was injured, just to show them the stadium and the game.

"Some of them already know Elland Road and what it's like to play there. I think it's better to show them rather than tell them."
