Robin Koch breaks silence over new Leeds United contract as he backs Whites to avoid relegation

Robin Koch has revealed that "initial talks are currently under way" over a new deal at Leeds United as he backed the club to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season.

The growing partnership between Koch and January signing Max Wober has been one of the standout causes for optimism at Leeds of late. However, the ongoing speculation over the German's future at Elland Road has recently cast doubt regarding how much longer the pair may well play together.

Koch's contract is currently set to expire at the end of next summer, meaning that the start of the 2023/24 campaign will currently be his final season in West Yorkshire.

However, the Leeds star has now spoken out about the speculation over his future at the club as he revealed that talks are currently underway for a new contract that would see him stay at Leeds beyond 2024.

"During the season, I want to distract myself as little as possible with future planning," he told German outlet Spox. "Initial talks are currently underway between the club and my agent.

"Towards the end of the season, and during the summer break, I will deal with it. Now, my focus is 100 per cent on our games and goals."

Koch was also asked about Leeds' battle against relegation and even though the club currently sit 19th in the table, he is adamant that they will still be in the Premier League next season.

"The question doesn’t come up," he said when asked about the chances of Leeds finishing in the bottom three. "I’m convinced that we will not be relegated. The position in the table doesn’t reflect our performance. We play a lot of good games, but we forget to score."
