Roberto Firmino and Trent Alexander-Arnold absences explained for Liverpool against Norwich

Roberto Firmino has handed Liverpool an injury scare ahead of next week’s League Cup final clash with Chelsea.

The Brazilian came off the bench to score for the Reds against Inter Milan in midweek, but was ruled out of Liverpool’s clash with Norwich City because of a muscle injury that is being assessed.

With Diogo Jota also ruled out with an ankle injury, Luis Diaz was handed his second start for the Reds in a front three alongside Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

The Colombian was one of seven changes to face the Canaries, with Firmino’s absence meaning Liverpool face an anxious wait to see if he will be fit in time to face Chelsea at Wembley.

While the 30-year-old wasn’t fit to face Norwich, the Reds have no such fears about Trent Alexander-Arnold despite the full-back being absent against the Canaries.

The ECHO understands the England international is just being rested by Klopp, with Joe Gomez making his first Premier League start of the season in his absence at right-back.

Liverpool against Norwich kicks off at 3pm this afternoon.
