Boston Celtics center Robert Williams III will make his season debut on Friday at home against the Orlando Magic. The big man underwent arthroscopic surgery on his injured knee in September.
Williams, 25, emerged as one of the league’s best defenders last year and was a critical piece for Boston’s postseason run. Though the ‘Time Lord” is listed as questionable on the team’s injury report, he is planning on playing according to multiple reports.
Last spring Williams suffered a partial meniscus tear, but played for much of the postseason. He averaged 2.2 blocks and 6.2 rebounds per game in the playoffs in just 23.2 minutes of action a night. This recent scope was an attempt to fully fix the injury, and Williams has been building strength and conditioning in recent weeks.
The Celtics will host the Magic on Friday and Sunday as part of a seven-game homestand, the longest of the season. Boston faces the Milwaukee Bucks on Christmas Day.
