Hearts have opened contract talks with Robert Snodgrass over extending the veteran’s stay in Gorgie.
The 35-year-old has shone since returning north of the border from Luton Town, joining the Jambos as a free agent in February. After taking a few weeks to get up to speed, the former Norwich City, Leeds and West Ham star has become a mainstay of Robbie Neilson’s midfield with Hearts on course for second successive third-placed finish in the Premiership.
With that would come a return to European football. Snodgrass wasn't registered for this season’s Europa Conference League group stage campaign. He had to watch from the stands as the Tynecastle team took on Istanbul Basaksehir, Fiorentina and RFS, but the 35-year-old is keen to sample football on the continent for the first time in his career and the Edinburgh Evening News reports that discussions are now formally underway after both parties initially took each other's temperature.
Snodgrass penned a one-year deal in the capital and has put down roots in Edinburgh, relocating there after moving back from England. Neilson has previously spoken of his desire to keep Snodgrass at the club for another season. The midfielder scored his first Hearts goal in a 1-1 draw away to St Mirren in January and has made four assists.
Speaking last month, Snodgrass said: “It’s been very, very minimal talk. I’ll not sit here and say it’s close or anything like that. I have a family so it’s not just making a decision and going with it. I’m privileged that this club wants to give me a chance. It’s a great chance. I’m delighted for that.”
