Robert Snodgrass has been left "devastated" after his Open Goal Live appearance ended with him being booed off the stage.
The former Scotland and Heart of Midlothian star joined a bumper line-up that included the likes of Gordon Strachan, Ryan Porteous and Lyndon Dykes alongside hosts Simon Ferry, Kevin Kyle and Paul Slane at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow last Friday night.
The sold-out event organised by the popular podcast was marketed as a huge Euro 2024 send-off with Scotland set to feature at only their second major tournament since 1998.
But the magnitude of the occasion was somewhat overshadowed during Snodgrass' address to the 12,000 capacity crowd.
The 36-year-old attempted to tell a story about Scotland captain Andy Robertson but it didn't go down well, before he made matters worse by claiming Hearts boss Steven Naismith was the "worst player" he had played with in the national team.
His speech was continually interrupted by jeers from unhappy punters and it's resulted in the one-time West Ham United and Aston Villa winger deactivating his social media accounts because of the abuse he was receiving.
However, Kyle has lots of sympathy for Snodgrass and reflected on his own experience taking on public speaking.
"It's like when I first started doing speakers nights," Kyle confessed on the latest Open Goal Podcast.
"I used to tell the story in my head but when I got out and delivered it I thought 'oh f***, I went over the top with that'. In my head I had seen how it was going to pan out. I think that is all that Snoddy did.
"He went out there with a story that was very a funny story when he told us it. What he tried to do was get everyone involved and he ended up losing himself.
"He forgot where he was and then he was trying to find it and take it back. It's hard because you have a group of guys there and women that have maybe had a drink and don't have that attention span at that time of night."
"I have seen people totally slaughtering him," Ferry chimed in with a defence of the 28-time capped Scotland international.
"People don't realise, Snoddy has probably got a few quid and he probably didn't even need to do this - he did it to help us out. He is actually devastated, mate. He has deleted his Twitter because, what? He never told a story right."
