New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh confirmed to reporters Thursday that Mike LaFleur is no longer the offensive coordinator, as he left to pursue other opportunities. Saleh also confirmed the Jets also have coaching openings at offensive line and wide receiver.
Saleh said other teams across the league reached out and inquired about LaFleur and so the Jets are letting LaFleur pursue those opportunities. Saleh said the Jets “felt like it was in everyone’s best interest” to let LaFleur go after those other potential positions.
Saleh also confirmed the Jets will be looking for new coaches for the offensive line and wide receivers. The Jets are parting ways with offensive line coach/run game coordinator John Benton while Miles Austin remains suspended for his violating the league’s gambling rules for coaches. Austin is appealing the suspension.
One more position the Jets will need to fill is their assistant defensive line coach. Per ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Greg Scruggs will not be returning to the Jets in 2023. He leaves after just one season with the team.

As of now, the Jets still have quarterbacks coach Rob Calabrese after there was initial confusion on his status, but he is currently still on the staff.
(Rob Calabrese was not fired, for those asking.)
