Robert F. Kennedy, an Independent presidential candidate, will be receiving protection from the U.S. Secret Service, as announced by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Monday. This decision comes in the wake of an assassination attempt on former President Trump over the weekend.

Mayorkas stated that President Trump had directed him to collaborate with the Secret Service to ensure the safety and security of Robert Kennedy Jr. in light of recent events. The move to provide protection to Kennedy was prompted by increasing calls, including from Trump himself, for such measures to be taken.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized the importance of ensuring Kennedy's safety, describing it as 'imperative.' Trump highlighted the historical context of the Kennedy family, alluding to the tragic assassinations of President John F. Kennedy in 1963 and Robert Kennedy, a presidential candidate, in 1968.

The decision to extend Secret Service protection to Robert F. Kennedy underscores the heightened concerns surrounding the safety of political figures in the current climate. The protection detail aims to mitigate potential security threats and safeguard Kennedy as he continues his campaign for the presidency.
