Robbers held knife to teenager's throat as they stole his phone and headphones

Robbers held a knife to a 16-year-old boy's neck in a park and took his iPhone and headphones. The victim said he thought he was going to be killed.

Jordan Price, 25, and Jordan Jones, 26, threatened the child in Aneurin Park in Caerphilly at around midnight on August 30. The pair were sitting on a bench when they began making comments to a group of teenagers including the victim.

A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Thursday heard Price and Jones asked the group if they "knew Popsy". They then asked if the group "wanted to buy drugs". After they were ignored by the group, one of them said: "We'll come and spark you out now, we have got shank. Don't ignore us, we've got a knife."

The victim's friends ran off leaving him on his own. He looked back at the defendants and they got up and approached him. Jones took a knife out of his pocket while Price grabbed the victim and held him while Jones held the knife to his throat. Jones said: "I have got a knife, give me everything you've got."

The thieves took an iPhone 11 and searched the victim's pocket. They also took a pair of headphones as Jones continued to hold the knife against his throat. They eventually let go of him, but as they walked off Jones said: "Don't call the feds, don't you dare tell anyone about this."

The victim ran off until he reached his friends who called the police. A search was carried out for Price and Jones who were discovered nearby at 12.50pm. Jones had a carrier bag which contained the headphones but the phone was never recovered, having been sold for £40. Both were arrested and Price told police his co-defendant had hidden "stuff" behind a wall. When police later searched the area they found the knife.

Price, of Hill View, Pontllanfraith, and Jones, of Cwrt Llanfabon, Energlyn, pleaded guilty to robbery. Jones also pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon. Price had previous convictions for possession of a kitchen knife while Jones was in breach of a suspended sentence for possession with intent to supply cannabis and possession of a knuckleduster.

In mitigation, Kevin Seal said Price was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the robbery. He said the defendant wanted to be a "better role model" for his children.

Laurence Jones said Jones was under the influence of cocaine at the time of the robbery. He said the defendant became a registered carer for his mother before she died in 2018. The court heard he had mental health issues, had smoked cannabis since he was 15-years-old and was introduced to hard drugs by his partner.

Recorder Carl Harrison sentenced Price to a total of 51 months imprisonment. Jones was sentenced to four years and six months imprisonment.
