Robert Rinder said he was 'going to cry' during his return to Good Morning Britain. The TV star, known to many as Judge Ringer, was back at the helm of the ITV news programme alongside Charlotte Hawkins on Wednesday (December 28).
During the show's first return since Christmas, Rob felt compelled to respond to one of their latest news story which revealed how more pets are being abandoned amid the cost of living crisis.
In the report, two rescue dogs, Fidget and Theo, were shown which left the hosts and newsreader Marverine Cole cooing over the animals. "If I had room, I'd take them in," Marverine sweetly admitted.
But as Charlotte turned to Rob, he quietly said: "I''m not sure I could have another one," referring to his own heartbreaking loss just a short time ago. Earlier this month the criminal barrister announced to his fans that his beloved pooch passed away in a social media post.
Rob made an emotional tribute to his late dog Rocco following his "sudden" and "unexpected" death, posting photos of Rocco cuddling up to him as they both slept. Speaking of his beloved pet, he said at the time: "He blessed me with a lifetime of loyalty & limitless joy."
In response to Rob on today's show, Charlotte said: "It's hard isn't it if you had a much loved one to then replace." Rob agreed and said: "I didn't really want a dog. Eventually you get a pet and it becomes exactly as you describe. It becomes exactly how you describe as they become part of your family. They're irreplaceable."
Later, Rob and Charlotte were joined by naturalist and TV presenter Chris Packham who spoke about the news from the RSPCA that all of its rescue centres are already full or at bursting point as well as his new BBC show, Dogs in the Wild: Meet the Family.
Before ending their chat, Rob asked Chris: "What would your message be to anyone thinking about adopting a dog or buying a dog? I've just lost a dog and I didn't realise how crushing it would be..."
Chris said that it was about finding the 'courage' to take on another companion animal. "It would never be a replacement but it would give you a very welcome distraction and ultimately, you will fall in love with that animal as well."
As Chris finished and the cameras returned to the studio, Rob's eyes appeared to be filled with tears and he admitted; "Thank you Chris... you made me cry!"
Robs emotional appearance came during his only stint on the show this week as from Thursday (December 29) he'll be replaced by a new face. It was announced that Gordon Smart will be taking over hosting duties with Charlotte for the last shows of 2022.
