Robert Rinder has been praised by Good Morning Britain viewers as he predicted 'terrible trouble' during his return. The TV star, known to many as Judge Rinder, has made a string of appearances as the main host of the show and was back on Monday (February 13) alongside Ranvir Singh.
The pair kicked off the week of half-term shows which usually sees a few different partnerships at the helm of the programme instead of Susanna Reid and the likes of Richard Madeley and Ed Balls. But it was Rob who came in for praise when he and Ranvir were joined live on the show by Angela Rayner.
The deputy leader of the Labour Party was grilled by the hosts on whether her party would be committed to reducing government spending. "You've been quite articulate and I think a lot of people champion you for saying, 'Look it's not enough for you to not be the Conservative Party,'" Rob began.
"You as a Labour Party have to offer something concrete, clear and different so when I look at how much money has been spent let's say for example Greg Hands who spent two nights at a £380 per night at a 5-star grand hotel, is it the position of the Labour government then, if you were to get into power that you would categorically commit to the British government to say you would not do that?"
"Well what we are clear on, and some of this expenditure is legitimate and I'm very clear on that," Ms Rayner replied as she appeared via video link live from Manchester. "What I am very clear on is that Labour would be transparent so first of all, the only reason we have these figures is because I have FOI'ed the government and asked for them.
"Some government departments publish them and some of them don't. We had a national audit office report and the public accounts committee report some years ago." But Rob wasn’t happy with that answer and chipped in: "Sorry, Angela Rayner, that’s not an answer." But she replied: "Government ministers staying at some hotels is completely legitimate. I did give you that answer saying there is some legitimate spend."
Then later in the interview, Rob interrupted Angela again as he said: "I’m so sorry, I’m going to get into terrible trouble on social media, I don’t really care – these are not difficult questions." At another point in the interview, the criminal barrister also snapped: "Cleaning up politics is important, I'm talking over you Angela Rayner because we don't have time, it's not a party political broadcast.
"What matters is being straight with the public and the policies you might offer as an alternative to the Conservative party." And viewers were quick to praise his shut down of the MP.
@sonya_grattan tweeted: "#GMB well done Rob Rinder - keep trying to pin down those politicians to get straight answers!" @SarahHarkin2 posted: "@GMB got to love Rob we don’t have time this is not a party political broadcast #gmb." @Warzoid shared: "Rob Rinder, single-handedly restoring political balance to British network television on #GMB." @maxcottis added: "Please please convince Rob Rinder to take up a regular spot….finally a co- presenter worth watching!"
