Rob Burrow’s wife Lindsey has joined the calls to make his hero pal Kevin Sinfield a knight.
The 40-year-old insisted he deserves it for his motor neurone disease fundraising.
There are also pleas for MND sufferer Rob to get a gong.
Lindsey said of rugby legend Kevin: “He is an incredible, selfless, extraordinary person who has gone above and beyond for his friend and the MND community. The funds and awareness he has raised has been phenomenal and he deserves recognition.
“Kevin is such a humble, down-to-earth guy, he does not do this for any type of accolades, he does it because he cares.
“He hasn’t had to do any of this for Rob and the community - he is superhero.”
It comes as Lindsey told of her determination to care for her ailing husband.
And she adds that he should join Kevin on the honours list.
“Rob is a hero too - he has been handed a death sentence, as he calls it, and yet he has opened his doors to raise awareness. They are both unsung heroes in my opinion.”
Lindsey explains what Kevin has done through his challenges is give families like hers hope by drawing attention to MND and prompting a renewed focus from the government to pledge badly-needed funding to find treatment and ultimately a cure for the underfunding disease.
She said: “He deserves this for what he has done, for what he has put himself through physically and mentally, we are in awe of that, but ultimately for the awareness and money he has raised.
“He has given families hope. We hope in the future when people are diagnosed, the diagnosis will be followed up with ‘but we have this treatment’ - and ultimately, that there will be a cure. Kev has had the drive to change that for patients, to change their future.
He has helped Rob hold onto that hope, too.
“And he has given people hope the government is listening now, people are taking notice. Kevin’s challenges have been talked about in parliament, we hope they keep their word and will deliver on their promise.”
She added: “It’s meant a huge deal to us, Kevin has been with Rob since day one and the support he has provided is an example of true friendship, he has gone above and beyond to help Rob. He is an extra special friend.
“But it’s bigger than just Rob, he genuinely wants to help the MND community and he has met so many people and has been inspired by them.”
