Rob Beckett said he's now in trouble with ITV after 'revealing' he's The Masked Singer 's Traffic Cone.
The funnyman drove his followers wild when he took to Twitter recently to jokingly announce he was taking part in the singing show, and was the mysterious white and orange character.
“Just send this out once I’ve been unmasked,” Rob began the tweet, suggesting he had instructed a member of his team to share a post ahead of being unveiled on the show.
“Thanks for all the support being the Traffic Cone I absolutely loved it. Great show. The kids couldn’t believe it was me,” he added, alongside a fist and laughing face emoji.
Before the show aired on Saturday, the comedian continued to troll his followers, and said bosses were furious he had blown his cover with the ‘accidental’ tweet.
“Look itv are p***ed off with me. The tweet was an accident. I’ve been quiet the last few days. They still won’t pay me so I don’t care anymore. I’m traffic cone. Don’t give a s*** if it’s a spoiler,” Rob wrote.
The suggestion he was taking part in the show has fooled some of his followers, but many of his fans are convinced it’s a huge wind-up.
“I cannot believe how many people have fallen for this,” one follower replied. “You wish you could sing that well!” another added.
And later on Saturday, Rob shared another update to the long-running joke, and said he’d been contacted by the celebrity who is in fact Traffic Cone.
“Right so I have a confession. I’m not Traffic Cone. It’s a wind up. However it’s got so out of hand the actual Traffic Cone has angrily messaged me telling me to stop saying I’m traffic cone. So for the record, I’m not Traffic Cone. But I now know who is,” the jokester tweeted.
Viewers have been speculating Traffic Cone could be Rob, Bradley Walsh, Rob Brydon or TV presenter Aled Jones.
Gavin & Stacey star Brydon fuelled speculation he was taking part in the hit show during an appearance on The John Bishop Show.
The 55-year-old, who also hosts BBC quiz Would I Lie To You, said he had been asked by ITV bosses to sign up for the singing show this year.
“Every Saturday night people think I'm a traffic cone. I haven't seen this run of it but I assume there is a traffic cone, and obviously I can't say can I, because it would spoil something,” he explained.
“But yes, I have been asked, yes,” he added.
