People are being urged to avoid Bolton town centre as a fire continues to rip through a commercial premises. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) were called around 6.50pm to the 'large' blaze on Brown Street, with crews still at the scene.

The fire has been generating a lot of smoke which has been travelling into the nearby town centre. Residents were asked to keep all windows and doors closed with road closures put in place.

Eight fire engines attended the scene to tackle the fire, with the support of Greater Manchester Police. The fire is now being brought under control, a spokesperson said, but people are still advised to avoid the area.
