A road was closed for six hours after an accident in Rhondda on Thursday. South Wales Police said the A4093 between Gilfach Goch and Glynogwr was closed until 9.30pm while officers carried out investigation work following an accident at around 2pm between Church Place at St Tyfodwg's Church and Hendreforgan Crescent.
On Thursday afternoon a statement from the force read: “We are at the scene of a serious collision on the A4093 in Gilfach Goch. The road is currently closed in both directions between Church Place and Hendreforgan Crescent. It is expected to remain closed for some time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes if possible. Delays are expected in the area.”
Locals - who said the road was known locally as Blackmill Lanes - reported motorists were still being advised to turn around at the road at 9pm on Thursday evening. An update from traffic monitoring system Inrix at 9.30pm on Thursday read: “A4093 in both directions closed due to accident investigation work between Dimbath Lane at Glynogwr and B4564 Cambrian Avenue at Gilfach Goch. Traffic is coping well. The road has been closed since earlier this afternoon.” The road re-opened in both directions shortly after 9.30pm.
