A residential road was closed after armed police were seen surrounding a home.
Clayford Crescent in Old Swan was cordoned off by police after officers were called to a property on the street just before 1.30pm on Monday. Photos taken at the scene showed two police Matrix vans parked up on the road and a police dog searching the area.
A video is reported to have shown armed police surrounding a house on the street. A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and is currently in custody, where he will be questioned by detectives.
Merseyside Police said a search of the property remains ongoing.

A police spokesperson said: "We attended at a property on Clayford Crescent, Old Swan, at just before 1.30pm today, Monday 3rd April.
"A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm. He is currently in custody where he will be questioned by detectives. A search of the property remains ongoing."
