BENGALURU: BBMP has sought a week’s time for issuing notification for acquisition of some portions of land belonging to a complainant in Pattandur Agrahara village of KR Puram. This followed the high court’s observation that efforts to form a road without acquiring the complainant’s land, as per earlier directions/assurances, amount to contempt.
The management of an educational institution had filed a civil contempt petition against Gaurav Gupta, chief commissioner of BBMP, and C Shashidhara, AEE of Mahadevapura, alleging violation of earlier orders and undertaking given to the court.
A division bench headed by justice B Veerappa noted that in spite of being granted time, BBMP hasn’t come forward with clear instructions on whether it wants to acquire the complainant’s land and if it is required for formation of the road.
Looking at the documents and photographs placed before the court, the bench said prima facie, the signs are that BBMP is taking steps to form the road and this amounts to contempt. However, when BBMP counsel said the civic body will issue notification on land acquisition immediately, the hearing was adjourned to next week.
