River levels in Newcastle, Durham, Corbridge and Hexham as flood warnings issued following heavy rain

Weather warnings are in place across the North East following a battering of heavy rain. The Met Office's yellow alert is in place across the region.

As a result, river levels are expected to rise. Officials have now warned that flooding is possible, and have urged people to "take care".

A weather warning is currently in place over much of England and Scotland. It is expected to last until 7am tomorrow (November 18th).

The Met Office warning had initially been set to finish at midnight tonight, with lighter rains forecast for tomorrow, but the torrential rain and chance of flooding look set to continue. The warning is to stay in place due to "slower clearance" across Northumberland, meteorologists say.

The forecast for today says people should expect heavy, persistent rain and gusty winds. It will continue through into the night.

However, tomorrow it is expected to ease off slightly but the rain is due to continue into the weekend. As a result of the continued rainfall, river levels are expected to rise with the chance of flooding.
