Shopping secondhand is a fashion trend that has grown in popularity in recent years, in part as a result of the cost of living crisis, but also because shoppers are becoming more eco-conscious with their wardrobes.
And now, River Island has launched a page where customers can buy pre-loved styles from the brand, with prices starting from as little as £10.
As part of its takeback scheme with Reskinned, the high street fashion retailer has set up an eBay shop which already has more than 700 pieces of clothing at a fraction of the original price.

Among the secondhand styles are a pair of pink swirl print trousers with feather trims, which are priced at £18, despite still being full price on the River Island website for £45. Meanwhile, a green viscose dress with faux fur cuffs is £20, down from the RRP of £65 on the website.
The initiative forms part of River Island’s Kind Society, which aims to help increase awareness of more sustainable choices in fashion. It’s a fantastic option for those looking for wedding guest outfits or festival looks that may only be worn a handful of times before being recycled once more.
The takeback scheme, in partnership with Reskinned, launched last year, and is now available in over 200 River Island stores. Reskinned specialises in reselling, reusing and recycling old clothes to prevent them ending up in landfill.
For the takeback scheme, customers are encouraged to bring a minimum of three items, from any brand, into participating stores, or arrange a drop-off online. A £5 gift voucher is given as a thank you, which can be redeemed off a minimum £40 order at River Island stores or online.
Items are hand-checked and ozone-cleansed by Reskinned using a zero water, eco-friendly cleaning process. Shoppers will then have the opportunity to purchase these revamped, River Island styles via the eBay store.
River Island’s head of corporate responsibility and sustainability, Jose Arguedas, said: “This represents a huge step forward in our ongoing efforts to reduce fashion waste. We look forward to not only maintaining awareness of recycling clothes with our takeback scheme, but also seeing iconic pieces being brought back to life through a circular fashion economy.”
There’s a range of clothes for men and women on the retailer’s pre-loved eBay shop, and we may see some children’s styles appear soon, which will be perfect for mums looking for cut-price kids outfits.
