River City is to be rocked by destruction after a storm sweeps Shieldinch causing catastrophic damage.
Bosses say that the storyline, which is expected to start being filmed around November, will also see a main character the victim of a horrific sexual assault.
However, they’re keeping tight-lipped about who’s involved in the hard-hitting scenes, expected to air next year.
The cast and crew are gearing up to start shooting their festive episodes over the next few weeks, with Montego Street currently turned into a winter wonderland.
Producer Martin McCardie told the Record: "There's a lot of good things coming up, we have the storm episode, it's a massive storyline and the storm night actually hides a sexual assault.
"And then that evolves and it takes us right through until next year, which could involve revenge. It could involved murder.
"But I am not saying if it does yet.
"It's an important storyline and the actors that we have got in it have really embraced it - are going for it.
"There's got to be things in it [River City] that are reflective of what is happening in society, and Rape Crisis Scotland have been involved with it right the way through the process from the storyline to reading the scripts and they have be real invaluable.
"These things need to be taken seriously."
