Rita Moreno's Role In The Prank Inspired By Real Experiences

Rita Moreno drew inspiration from personal encounters in Hollywood for her role.

Rita Moreno recently shared insights into her role in the upcoming film 'The Prank' during an appearance on The View. The acclaimed EGOT winner revealed that she drew inspiration from her personal encounters with challenging individuals in Hollywood to portray a mean-spirited teacher in the comedic movie.

Describing her role as the best part she's had in years, Moreno expressed her excitement for the film, labeling it as a hilarious and potentially cult favorite. She discussed how she channeled her character by reflecting on the negative experiences she had with certain women in the entertainment industry, referring to them as 'bitches.'

When asked about the process of getting into character, Moreno humorously mentioned that there were too many names to list, indicating the prevalence of such encounters in her career. She shared that she drew from her Puerto Rican background and personal history to infuse authenticity into her portrayal of Mrs. Wheeler, the teacher accused of murder in the film.

Moreno also revealed her involvement in shaping the character's appearance, including selecting a deliberately unflattering haircut and sourcing clothing from thrift stores to reflect Mrs. Wheeler's mean-spirited nature. The actress expressed her enjoyment in embodying the role and the creative freedom she had in crafting the character's look.

'The Prank' is set to hit theaters on March 15, following its premiere at SXSW in 2022. The film promises a blend of comedy and mystery, with Moreno's performance as a standout element that audiences can look forward to.
