Manchester United are set to miss out on right-back target Sergino Dest who will join AC Milan on loan with a buy option from Barcelona.
The news came just hours after United had held exploratory talks with Dest on a season-long loan from the Catalan giants, despite United being unimpressed by Barcelona's conduct over their pursuit of Frenkie de Jong, United viewed Dest, 21, as an upgrade on right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The American international had played for United manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax, and would have been the third player to join United to have also played for the manager at the Dutch champions, after Lisandro Martinez and Antony. Christian Eriksen also came to Old Trafford, having been at Ajax earlier in his career.

But although United's late interest in the American international could have amounted to his incoming, he will now instead join the Italian side. It means Wan-Bissaka will stay at United, despite the club fielding enquiries from Premier League club's for his services.
United fans have been hoping that the club sign a right-back, but it now looks like their summer business could be wrapped up, with many giving their reaction.
