There is a risk of heat stress amid “exceptionally warm weather” over Ireland, forecasters have warned.

Met Éireann issued a nationwide status yellow high temperature warning for the entirety of the Republic of Ireland between midday on Tuesday and 9am on Friday.

It comes on top of an overall weather advisory which came into effect from midday on Monday.

It said that daytime temperatures will exceed 25C with temperatures possibly reaching 30C on Thursday.

It added that it would be “very mild, humid and possibly uncomfortable at night” as temperatures will generally stay above 15C.

The weather agency warned that thunderstorms are possible also, particularly on Thursday.

The UK Met Office said the highest temperatures in Northern Ireland would be around 23C on Monday and 25C on Tuesday.

It forecast that this would be followed by dry and very warm days with some sunny spells, and “perhaps very hot on Thursday” with potentially “some thundery showers” into Friday.
