Former Leeds United players Eddie Gray and Dominic Matteo believe Rodrigo Moreno is stepping up at just the right time for the Whites. The 31-year-old has scored three goals in his last four appearances, a spurt in form that has coincided with Leeds picking up 10 points from their last 12 available.
Rodrigo has been arguably the player who has benefitted most from the arrival of Jesse Marsch, as he is producing some of the best form of his Leeds career since his arrival almost two years ago. Marsch has provided him with a greater deal of responsibility off the pitch, but more freedom on it, which has helped to bring the best out of him.
Speaking on Leeds United’s pre-match show, both Matteo and Gray believe that Rodrigo is rising to the challenge as the Whites look to escape from danger and his recent goal surge will give him a great deal of confidence for the run-in.
Matteo said: “I’m really pleased for Rodrigo, I think he’s the one player that we always seem to mention on the show. He is improving. He always seems to get better as the season goes on and I think we’re going to see more from him. He’s obviously chipping in with the goals as well and I think some of them were brilliantly taken as well.”
Gray then added: “I think Dom’s right what he says about Rodrigo. The past few games he’s been one of our most impressive players and he seems to be rising to the challenge that’s in front of him which is good for us because we know Raphinha can score goals, we’ve got players who can play. But it’s nice to see him getting somewhere near his best and that will give him a lot of confidence going into the run in.”
