Incoming Prime Minister Rishi Sunak promised to do his utmost to bring his party and the country together during his first address to the nation.
Former Chancellor Mr Sunak was today appointed as the new leader of the Conservative Party after being the only remaining candidate to reach the required threshold of 100 nominations from Tory MPs.
The details of the handover of power are now being finalised by Downing Street and Buckingham Palace. However Mr Sunak will only formally become the new Prime Minister when Liz Truss tenders her resignation to the King, and the Monarch asks Mr Sunak to form a government in his name, which it has been confirmed will not be today (Monday).
