Rishi Sunak has rejected pleas from business chiefs to plug "vast" gaps in the domestic workforce by loosening immigration rules.
The Prime Minister sidestepped questions on whether he would liberalise visa rules at the CBI annual conference today - and insisted that clamping down on illegal immigration was the "most pressing priority".
CBI boss Tony Danker told the conference that politicians needed to be honest about the UK's "vast" labour shortages, adding "we don't have the people we need nor do we have the productivity".
