Rishi Sunak has resigned as chancellor, telling the Prime Minister that standards in Government are “worth fighting for” and saying he and Boris Johnson's approaches were too different.
The chancellor resigned shortly after 6pm on Tuesday evening, shortly after health secretary Sajid Javid - plunging the embattled Prime Minister into one of the most serious crises of his leadership.
Later in the evening it was confirmed Nadhim Zahawi, previously education secretary, was the new chancellor. Mr Zahawi co-founded polling giant YouGov, and In 2011 he and fellow MP Matt Hancock wrote a book about the financial crash called Masters of Nothing.
