Rio Ferdinand suggests Jadon Sancho would play better for England than he does for Manchester United

Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Jadon Sancho is arguably better suited for international football with England than he is in the Premier League with Manchester United.

Gareth Southgate's decision to leave Sancho out of his 28-man squad for this round of UEFA Nations League matches caused quite a stir among United supporters. The former Borussia Dortmund winger had put in some fine performances under Erik ten Hag, as he scored goals against Liverpool and Leicester.

His upturn in form however, was not enough for Southgate to select the 22-year-old for England's games against Italy and Germany. After a lacklustre 1-0 defeat to the Italians on Friday night, this might be a decision that Southgate is coming to regret, as the Three Lions looked toothless in attack.

Sancho's last appearance for England came in October last year, where the winger provided two assists in a 5-0 win over Andorra during a World Cup qualifier. Although there was no usual press conference held for England's team selection due to the Queen's death, Southgate did release a written statement that may still give the United forward a glimmer of hope to appear at the Qatar World Cup later this year.

The England manager said: "There were certain players we wanted to keep involved this time, but that said it doesn’t mean that this is the end for some of the others who aren’t involved."

Ferdinand has now had his say on Sancho's omission from the squad, as he made an interesting claim on his YouTube channel.

The former United defender said: "Yeah I would have [picked Sancho], given what he’s been doing at the beginning of the season. Sancho probably suits international football more than the Premier League maybe, given the way he plays. I don’t know [why Southgate hasn’t picked him]."
