Rio Ferdinand hits out at referee after Manchester United vs Newcastle draw

Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has questioned multiple of referee Craig Pawson's decisions after yesterday's 0-0 draw between the Red Devils and Newcastle United.

There were a number of contentious decisions in the game at Old Trafford, including numerous penalty shouts that weren't given to both sides - one of which saw replays show Magpies forward Callum Wilson seemingly caught by Man United defender Raphael Varane in a decision called 'the worst' decision of the weekend by Danny Murphy.

Pawson has become one of the most controversial referees in recent months due to fans disagreeing with his decisions on the pitch, and now Ferdinand has become one of his many critics.

Speaking on the 'Vibe with Five' show on the Rio Ferdinand Presents Five YouTube channel, the former Man United player pointed out three decisions that went against his former club.

"The free kick was taken! The one where Ronaldo walked up to it, and kicked it in the goal, the defender took the touch. The penalty decision with Sancho, how is that not a penalty? He kicks his leg. The one on Ronaldo, anywhere else on the pitch it's a free kick - but it's in the penalty area and he doesn't give it."

Ferdinand gave his assessment of the match and while he says it was mostly Man United-dominated, they couldn't finish their chances well enough to deserve the win.

"I think Man United controlled parts of the game but it was stalemate. I saw Erik ten Hag's comments about how United pressed them, they were tired, they had cramp. That should be normal at Old Trafford.

"United still don't look like they can create chances though, they had Newcastle penned in at times but you still thought they weren't knocking on the door.

"Yeah, they had possession and were getting the ball into good areas but it's like the locksmith isn't there at the minute and they're not getting behind them enough and the final ball just wasn't there."
