Ring's New Indoor Camera Keeps the Low Price Tag but Increases Your Privacy

Ring makes a ton of smart home gadgets, all mainly in the home monitoring realm. With this update, they’re probably making the most critical change to their core indoor camera ever.

The new Ring Indoor Camera (the 2023 edition) integrates a privacy shutter while keeping the other fan-favorite features. Best of all, it keeps the same $59.99 price point and comes in two colors.

If you’re already sold, it’s up for preorder at Amazon and begins shipping on May 25, 2023.

Like the previous generation, this keeps a compact cylindrical design in either black or white. It can sit on the included stand, so you can prop it up on a shelf or opt for the mount included in the box.

To provide a clear, crisp view, the Indoor Cam features a 1080pHD lens that supports night vision in full color and advanced motion detection features. This way, whether your room is bright as the sun or darker, you can get a clear view and know what’s going on in a given space.

With “PreRoll” functionality as well, the Indoor Cam will record a few seconds before an event is triggered to be recorded. It’s pretty handy, and we’ve used this in action frequently with packing delivered via the Ring Video Doorbell line.

Asides from the visuals, the most significant change is that you can block and effectively cut off the Indoor Cam. The now built-in privacy shutter can be quickly closed, giving you true privacy. While it does block the camera lens, Ring also cuts off the audio (speakers and microphones) when the shutter is closed.

If you’ve been holding off on a Ring Indoor Cam due to privacy concerns, this physical shutter now solves the problem and provides more peace of mind. It also keeps the video quality you expect from Ring and an indoor camera.

It still deeply integrates with the rest of the Ring family and the other smart home ecosystems like Amazon’s Alexa for some neat integrations.

Ring’s new Indoor Cam with this privacy shutter begins shipping in late May and is up for preorder now at $59.99. Additionally, if you’re cool without the extra privacy functionality, you can get the previous-generation Indoor Cam for 33% off at $39.99. It also ships straight away on Amazon (AMZN).
