Rihanna’s $1.75 million gift to Barbados cancer centre continues to help patients 14 years later

Rihanna Cancer Barbados Queen Elizabeth Hospital Oncology Chemotherapy Health Care

In 2012, Rihanna donated $1.75 million worth of medical equipment to Barbados’ Queen Elizabeth Hospital in memory of her grandmother, Clara “Dolly” Brathwaite, who died from cancer that June. The gift helped modernise the hospital’s cancer-care services, and the radiotherapy unit was renamed the Clara Brathwaite Centre for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine. According to the Los Angeles Times, Rihanna said the donation was her way of giving back to Barbados and helping the hospital continue its modernisation programme.
