Rihanna fans have voiced their displeasure after Chris Brown posted about the pop superstar.
The Barbadian singer has reportedly given birth to her first child with rapper A$AP Rocky earlier this week and her former flame Chris took to social media to seemingly send her a message of goodwill.
Rihanna and Chris have history after previously dating from 2007 until 2009 – but the rapper was charged with assault and making criminal threats after attacking his then-girlfriend before the 51st Annual Grammys Awards, where she had been due to perform.
The pair rekindled their relationship briefly in 2013, despite Chris still being under probation for the violent incident.
However, the 33-year-old seems to have put their past behind them with a complimentary message on his Instagram story in the wake of news that Rihanna had given birth.
Posting a praying hands and red heart emoji together, he wrote "Congratulations" followed by a pregnant woman emoji underneath.
Despite the reasonably straight forward good luck message, Rihanna's fans were still taken aback by Chris' online actions.
On Twitter, one person commented: "Chris Brown has absolutely no business congratulating our Queen Riri on her baby’s birth."
Another wrote: "Chris Brown subliminally telling Rihanna congratulations on IG is top tier toxicity."
A third person tweeted: "The problem with Chris Brown “congratulating” Rih is that he’s NEVER shown that energy with his own children’s mothers."
However, some Twitter users also leapt to his defence in relation to the gesture.
One wrote: "I saw nothing wrong with what Chris Brown congratulating Rihanna … she forgave him and he probably will never forgive himself for that day, but he is maturing and he moved on from being in love with her may he never forget the times he had with her tho."
A second person posted: "I don’t understand how Chris brown congratulating Rihanna is a problem for some people."
Rihanna has been embracing her changing body during her pregnancy by flaunting her growing bump in bikinis and figure-hugging dresses.
Her last public appearance was earlier this month on May 9 in LA for Mother's Day when she and Rocky enjoyed a lavish dinner at a swanky restaurant.
Rihanna and Rocky have been together since 2020 and announced they were becoming parents together for the first time in January.
