Rihanna announces music comeback with 'R9'; says she is "prepared to go back in the studio"

The Rihanna album we have all been waiting for, may finally be in the works!

The singer and beauty mogul has given fans an exciting update about her highly anticipated studio album, which she has dubbed 'R9'. Following rumours that the singer may be leaving behind her music career, following her appearance in an “I’m Retired” tee, Rihanna, at the launch of her new hair care line, shared her plans for creating new music.

"I think that music, for me, is a new discovery," Rihanna told ET on the red carpet of her launch event.

"I’m rediscovering things. I have been working on the album for so long that I kinda put all that stuff aside, and now I’m prepared to go back in the studio. I’m gonna start — give me a second," she said.

The artist elaborated on her creative process, saying, “I’m starting over. But I don’t want to neglect the songs that I have, so I actually want to go back and listen to stuff with new ears, with my new perspective, and then see what applies and what I’m still in love with."

Rihanna also poked fun at herself for delaying album release. At the event, the singer took over the mic and teased her guests saying, "This is probably the longest I’ve ever taken to create something. No, I lied, that’s R9."

The star, who took a break from music to enjoy being a mom to her two boys, also quipped that the two toddlers are the reason for keeping her away from the studios. When asked if her two little men have helped inspire her music, she said, "They’ve inspired the fact that I haven’t gone to the studio as much."

Rihanna's last album, 'Anti', was released in 2016, and she has since launched her beauty line, lingerie fashion line, and collaborated with various apparel brands with her signature line.

Back in March, the singer, who performed at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's pre-wedding party in Jamnagar, revealed in an interaction with the media, that fans can expect new music 'soon'.

In addition to her music, Rihanna is also working on her new animated film on the Smurfs. She is set to voice Smurfette in the upcoming movie and will also produce and write original music for the film directed by Chris Miller and co-directed by Matt Landon. The untitled movie is scheduled for release on February 14, 2025.
