Rico Lewis lifts lid on Man City squad's hidden satisfaction from Burnley and RB Leipzig wins

Manchester City players were just as happy with their clean sheets against RB Leipzig and Burnley this week as they were with their 13 goals.

City produced a stunning display in the Champions League on Tuesday to progress to the quarter-finals, and followed that up with a 6-0 FA Cup win over Burnley to set up a Wembley semi-final. Rico Lewis was recalled to the side for the FA Cup clash and impressed once again at left-back against the Clarets to help record a fifth clean sheet in a row on the way to six wins in succession.

So despite the remarkable goalscoring exploits of Erling Haaland and his attacking teammates, Lewis revealed that City's defenders were just as happy with the two clean sheets this week.

"It's massive to be able to score that many goals and also keep the clean sheet at the back," Lewis told CityTV after the Burnley win.

"We could be winning games 6-1, 6-2, it still looks good but we're showing we're solid at the back and we're not conceding many chances. It's always massive to score the first goal to assert the dominance and control. From there we were in control of the whole game."

However, despite the collective focus on the clean sheet, Lewis also revealed how he had a personal motivation for helping City get through their quarter-final.

"That was the main thing I was thinking before the game," he explained, "getting this game done and won and getting the trip to Wembley. For me, it's been a dream my whole life to play at the stadium.

"Hopefully we then progress to the final and win something there, that would be the pinnacle for me. Getting there in the first place is massive for me.

"There's a lot of players, a lot of rotation. It comes with playing in this amazing team. It's important that any game I play, I take as much as I can, learning from it. Especially going into the international break now, getting minutes in my legs to go play there."
