Ricky Martin’s nephew has withdrawn claims of incest and harassment against the singer, ending a case that made global headlines last week.
On Thursday, a judge in Puerto Rico declined to extend a temporary restraining order against Martin, which was issued on July 5 after his 21-year-old nephew alleged that the two had had a romantic relationship for seven months and that Martin, 50, refused to accept the separation.
During Thursday’s court hearing, the nephew “ceased his claims voluntarily; therefore the case was archived and no further procedures are required,” a judicial spokesperson told The Associated Press.
The “Living La Vida Loca” singer strongly denied the accusations. One of his lawyers, Marty Singer, told the Daily News last week that “the idea is not only untrue, it is disgusting.”
The hearing, which was held virtually, was not open to the public.
“Just as we had anticipated, the temporary protection order was not extended by the Court,” Martin’s defense team said in a statement Thursday.
“This was never anything more than a troubled individual making false allegations with absolutely nothing to substantiate them. We are glad that our client saw justice done and can now move forward with his life and his career,” the team added.
