Ricky Hatton 'on the mend' after having operation to fix 'worrying' hand condition

Ricky Hatton has updated fans after having a 'serious' operation on a hand condition.

The Hitman took to Instagram earlier this week to confirm that he had contracted Dupuytren's disease and has been unable to train for three months. The 44-year-old boxing legend shared images of gruesome scars on his left hand, as well as a more updated photograph now that it has almost fully healed.

He wrote: "Had a serious operation when I got Dupuytrens disease. I’ve not been able to punch or do pads for about 3 month.

"At least my boxers all had finished there fights for the year before I had the operation. Having said that it’s been a frustrating & worrying time for me as you can see from my first photo.

"The amount of work it is in such a small & complicated area in your hand & around your fingers. But ready to start back now which has been a relief. Baby steps though."

On Twitter today (Saturday January 28), Hatton confirmed that he is "well and truly on the mend". Fans rushed to offer messages of support.

@LucasKisner tweeted: "Get well soon champ". @JPurnell77 added: "Good luck champ, stick to the physio. I’m a long way down that path, but it looks good for you."

According to the NHS, Dupuytren's is when one or more fingers bend in towards your palm and fingers may get stuck in a bent position, if not treated. It occurs when the tissue under the skin near your fingers becomes thicker and less flexible.
