Ricky Gervais stuns Alex Jones on The One Show after declaring 'I'm going to die soon'

Ricky Gervais left Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas stunned when an interview on The One Show took an unexpected turn. The comedian appeared on the BBC programme to talk to the hosts about his new Netflix stand-up special SuperNature.

But things took an unexpected turn when Welsh presenter Alex Jones asked Ricky how he manages to talk about his "wealth" so much in his sketches. Pointing out that the audience "laps it up" even when it can be "really uncomfortable."

Ricky explained it's because the audience "knows" what he's doing, reports Manchester Evening News. He said: "I'm going there, it's an elephant in the room. I go out with bad jeans, drinking out of a can of beer. I think because we are jesters, so we have to be down with the audience, laughing at the king.

"I think I do that in two ways. One I let them peep behind the curtain and I tell them all the terrible things that happen to me, the terrible tweets, the terrible press.

"I also do it by talking about things where they're better off than me. I'm fat and old and I'm going to die soon."

"You are not," a shocked Alex responded before Ricky shot back: "I am."

"You're not, you're not," the Welsh presenter insisted as Ricky clocked a mood change and asked: "I've brought it down haven't I?"

"Quick, lift it," Jermaine urged before Ricky explained: "Every day I'm closer to death."

"Well, we're all a bit closer to death," Alex told him. "Every day is a bigger percentage of the rest of your life and we don't know what percentage that is going to be," Ricky explained. "If I die tomorrow, today was 50%."

Stunned at the conversation, Jermaine admitted: "I didn't see this coming, this is not a part of the show that I thought was going to happen."

And Alex finally changed the subject by telling Ricky he was a "softie" in his heart and pointing out that some of the proceeds from the tour were going to animal charities. The One Show continues weekdays at 7pm on BBC One. For more showbiz and television stories, get our newsletter here.
