Ricky Gervais divides internet with 'brutal' dig at Justin Timberlake over drink-drive arrest

Ricky Gervais couldn’t resist making one of his trademark digs at Justin Timberlake following his drink-driving arrest.

The comedian, who infamously lampooned A-list stars during his five-time presenting stint at the Golden Globes, wasted no time in going in on the Cry Me A River singer.

Timberlake, 42, had allegedly claimed to arresting officers that he consumed just “one martini” when police pulled him over for reportedly swerving on the road in the Hamptons on Tuesday.

Gervais took to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, just hours after news broke about Timberlake’s brush with the law.

Tagging Timberlake’s handle in the post, he wrote: “Did you get the bottle of Dutch Barn Vodka I sent you the other day?”

The post divided his followers, with some calling him a “legend” and hailing his remarks the “Tweet of the week”, while others described it as “brutal” and told him it was “too soon” to be making jokes.

Timberlake is currently on the American leg of his Forget Tomorrow tour but it’s unclear whether his arrest will affect his international planned dates.

Page Six reported that while in custody, Timberlake whispered “this going to ruin the tour”.

When pressed on what tour he was talking about, Timberlake said “the world tour” according to the source.

The former Disney child star has been charged with one count of DWI and two traffic violations after failing to stop at a stop sign and failing to keep on the right side of the road.

According to a report obtained by the New York Post, Timberlake “performed poorly on all standardised field sobriety tests” and repeatedly refused to take a breathalyser leading him to be banned from driving in the state of New York for one year.

He is due back in court on July 26.
