Richarlison responds to furious criticism of Neymar for 'arrogant' Brazil kit change

Richarlison has called a reporter an "a**hole" after a German newspaper labelled Neymar arrogant for adding an extra star to Brazil's kit.

Brazil are the bookies' favourites to win the Qatar World Cup and start their campaign against Serbia on Thursday. Tite's side are in the middle of a 36-game unbeaten run, and Argentina are the only team to beat them in a competitive game since the last World Cup.

Brazil's talisman Neymar is enjoying a fine season at Paris Saint-Germain - scoring 15 goals and providing 12 assists in 20 games - and is clearly confident of winning his maiden World Cup. The 30-year-old has suggested as much with a cheeky post on Instagram.

Neymar took a picture of his Brazil shorts and added a sixth star to the badge. Brazil have won the most men's World Cups in history but have not tasted success for 20 years. In fact, no South American nation has won the World Cup since their triumph in 2002.

German newspaper Bild was not impressed with Neymar's post and published a story about it on their website with the headline: "First attack of arrogance by Neymar!"

It's not surprising Bild are unhappy with Neymar's post, as the Germans are also among the favourites to win the World Cup. Germany are on the hunt for their fifth title, with their last coming in Brazil in 2014 - when they famously defeated the hosts 7-1 in the semi-final.

Richarlison was not happy with Bild's headline, as he believes Brazil are "dreamers" rather than arrogant. The Tottenham forward is expected to play an important role in Brazil's pursuit for a sixth title and regularly starts up front ahead of Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus.

"They are arrogant," said Richarlison. "We're just dreamers. We are dreaming of this sixth star and we will pick it up, whether they like it or not. That reporter is an a**hole."

Germany's opening game of the World Cup is against Japan at the Khalifa International Stadium on Wednesday. Hansi Flick's side take on Spain at the Al Bayt Stadium four days later before their final group game against Costa Rica at the same ground on December 1.

Brazil, meanwhile, will take on Switzerland at Stadium 974 on November 28 before meeting Cameroon at the Lusail Stadium four days later. Brazil's final group game takes place just a day before the knockout stages start, with England potentially playing on December 3.

Brazil have won three Copa Americas, three Confederations Cups and the Olympics twice during the last 20 years, but they've not come close to a sixth World Cup. They were knocked out by France and the Netherlands at the 2006 and 2010 editions respectively.

As well as Brazil and Germany, France, Argentina, Spain and England were also billed as pre-tournament favourites. England's odds have improved since their impressive 6-2 victory against Iran in their opening fixture on Monday.
