Frank Lampard asks Richarlison about preferred Everton position

Richarlison has once again reaffirmed his commitment to Everton and revealed he has held talks with Frank Lampard over his preferred position.

The 24-year-old has fast become a star of Brazilian football and claimed an Olympic gold medal during the games in Tokyo last summer.

The former Fluminense star was also part of the Brazil side that claimed the 2019 Copa America title - the first major honour of his career.

Richarlison netted 13 Premier League goals in both of his first two seasons at Everton but hit the net just seven times in the competition last term.

So far this season the former Watford man has endured a stop start campaign after missing 10 games in all competitions before the end of January due to a knee injury and a calf problem.

But now with at least 11 games left in all competitions, the Brazilian has revealed he is '100-per-cent fit' and ready to fire his side away from the relegation zone and up the Premier League table.

“It took some time to recover from the physical challenge of playing two international tournaments last summer – but I feel 100-per-cent fit entering a very important period for our team,” he wrote on evertonfc.com.

“I told the manager he can count on me, my body is obeying me and everything is in place to have an excellent closing few months of the season.

“It was probably inevitable that I would have fitness issues at some point, not only because I played non-stop for two years from the 2019 Copa America but because injuries are part of a footballer’s life.

“I was counting the minutes until I could get back on the pitch after I hurt my knee earlier this season and it was the same when I was coming back from my calf issue at the start of the year.

“I want to be playing and scoring goals and providing assists to help Everton pick up points to climb the table. The Club means so much to me, I am really settled in the city and it feels like being at home in Brazil.”

Richarlison has now played under four different managers at the club following his summer transfer from Watford back in 2018.

The latest of those managers is Frank Lampard, who replaced the sacked Rafa Benitez at the end of January - and the Brazilian has revealed that he has told his new boss that he prefers to play in the number nine role.

He said: “We have enormous confidence and belief in the manager and want to give our maximum for him on the pitch. He won so much as a player and it is time to transfer that success to Everton.

“I had a long conversation with the manager this week and he asked me about my preferred position. It is number nine, partly because that is where I play for the national team.

“But I was very clear that I will give absolutely everything, wherever he wants me to play. I will do my best and honour the shirt and help him as much as possible, whether it is in the middle or out wide.

“My ambition is always to contribute to the team’s success, with goals and assists but also through hard work and running and tackling and occupying defenders.”

Before Richarlison concluded: “I want to be someone my teammates can count on. We have a difficult and important game at Tottenham on Monday and there is a real determination to improve our away form.

“The manager has talked a lot about the need for more consistency and as players we know the performances can’t keep going up and down.

“This is a chance to start showing we can produce our best every week. The focus is on the short term because of our situation in the league. But my longer-term ambitions are unchanged.

“I have said for a long time I want to make history in an Everton shirt and score lots of goals here. I believe I can have a wonderful career at this club.”
