Richard Sherman Suggests Chargers Should Make Historic Halftime Firing of Brandon Staley

The Chargers were blown out in the first half against the Raiders on Thursday Night Football, prompting Prime Video NFL analyst Richard Sherman to boldly suggest for the franchise to make history by firing coach Brandon Staley at halftime.

With Los Angeles trailing 42–0 at the half, Sherman indicated it was time for Staley to be shown the door and ousted as head coach of the Chargers. The five-time Pro Bowl cornerback described the first half performance as “throw up in a cup.”

“Throw up in a cup. This is one of the worst first halves I’ve seen from a team. It just looks like they’ve given up,” Sherman said on the broadcast.

“Brandon Staley, I hate to say this because you don’t ever want to call for somebody’s job. But, they should make history. They should fire him at halftime,” he added.

Sherman didn’t mince words when assessing the lackluster performance from Staley’s squad, and he’s seen enough to declare the coach shouldn’t keep his job beyond halftime.

Los Angeles turned the ball over three times in the first half, and its defense was outclassed by Las Vegas’s offense, which registered 21 points in each of the first two quarters of play. Raiders rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell had four first-half passing touchdowns.

A loss on Thursday would see the Chargers fall to 5–9 on the year and 24–24 in Staley’s tenure as coach.
