Richard Osman quits Pointless after 13 years as he makes career change

Richard Osman has quit Pointless after 13 years.

The 51-year-old has been part of the hit daytime TV quiz show alongside friend Alexander Armstrong since the series first began on the BBC in 2009.

However, in recent years, Richard has seen huge success with his writing career, with his best-selling book The Thursday Murder Club being picked up by Oscar-winning filmmaker Steven Spielberg for a film adaptation.

And it has been reported that Richard is keen to focus on his writing and will step away from the quiz show.

The Sun claims that Richard - who created the show's format - will be replaced by rotating co-hosts.

In the meantime, it is believed that he will continue to host Pointless Celebrities, though it is likely he will also step away from that too.

A BBC source told the publication: "Richard has become a staple of the daytime schedule but sadly all good things must come to an end.

“Richard has loved every second of doing the show alongside Xander but he really wants to give his all to his writing career which has been an enormous success."

They said that his departure was "completely amicable" but he doesn't have enough hours in the day to keep presenting the show.

The insider added: "His literary career is going from strength to strength so he’s having to be slightly more choosy with what he does TV-wise."

It is reported that he will continue to host the House of Games for the BBC.

Richard's first novel, released in 2020, is the third best-selling hardback of all time in the UK and its follow-up, The Man Who died Twice (2021) is the the sixth best.

*Pointless airs weekdays on BBC One
