(Picture: AFP via Getty Images)Richard Curtis has voiced his disappointment that Will Ferrell was never nominated for an Oscar for his turn in the beloved Christmas movie Elf.
The 65-year-old British screenwriter and director, who is behind box office hits such as Love Actually and Bridget Jones’ Diary, made his remarks to reporters at the Oscar Wilde Awards in Los Angeles on Thursday.
“I always get very antsy about the fact that Will Ferrell didn’t get nominated for Elf,” Curtis said, according to BBC, when discussing the star’s portrayal as the ever optimistic Buddy The Elf in the 2003 flick.
He also said how he felt the late Peter Sellers had equally been snubbed by the Academy for failing to get a nomination for playing Inspector Jacques Clouseau in The Pink Panther film series.
“But, it’s the price you pay, as it were. Comedies tend to make a bit of money, and then you don’t get the prizes,” he said.
This year’s Oscars is due to take place on Sunday at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood with Will Smith and Benedict Cumberbatch among the contenders for best actor.
Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall will serve as co-hosts at the 94th Academy Awards.
This year will be the first time the annually held ceremony has had a host since Jimmy Kimmel in 2018.
It will also be the first time that three women have hosted the show, and the first time that there have been at least three emcees since 1987.
